"Evening Sanctuary" acrylic 40"x30"
Columbia City Gallery
I am a Featured Artist in the upcoming exhibit Dirt which runs April 28 – June 13 at Columbia City Gallery.
Other artists in this exhibit are: Gretchen Siegrist, Mark Ditzler, Joan Robbins, Ricardo Duque, and Drew Forsell
These paintings are from my Tribal Suite series, which is about connections:
animals to plants, humans to humans, humans to our inner selves.
For this exhibit, I’ve focused on the connection between dirt and life:
the transubstantiation of dirt into plants, plants into animals, and animals and plants back into dirt.
The layering of paint and collaged materials in my work echoes the complexity of this process.
These pieces also incorporate hand crafted stamps that are my own symbols of life and connection.
Some of the paintings are painted over a layer of acrylic gel mixed with garden dirt.
